When I was in kindergarten, this globe inspired me to want to see more of the world. I was fascinated by all the countries, the lines that showed the paths of ships and spaceships, and I discovered the world was smaller than I thought. I would spin this globe around and around stopping it on a place and then sitting cross-legged on the floor reading about those places in World Book encyclopedias.
Of particular fascination was the places at the top and bottom of the globe. So much so that eventually the globe came loose from it's base. I was now able to "hold the whole world in my hands." And Antarctica was so much easier to see.
So the time has come to go there for real in January 2015. I'll try to update my blog during the trip. Hopefully you'll want to tag along!
